Week 4: Technology & Teams

Technology has definitely been a huge impact in the 21st century. As mentioned in the reading, "in less than a decade, cell phones have gone from a search-for-a-signal tech-toy for the wealthy to the most pervasive mobile computing platform on the planet." Its interesting to see that everywhere you look, everyone has cell phones. Even the kids who are still in middle school have cell phones. When I was in high school, I never had a cell phone. At that point in my life, my friends and I thought pagers was the "cool" thing to have (does anyone remember those things?). I do have to admit, that when I got my first cell phone, I felt so important. I remember thinking to myself "Wow, I can really call whoever I want right now." I also have to mention that, to me, my cell phone is a very important device because you never know when you are going to need it. My mom has mentioned to me before that she thought a cell phone bill was to much money, and that I shouldn't use it anymore. I explained to her that it's important to have a cell phone. For example, if your car ever brakes down, you can always call for help. This has happened to me before, and my mom changed her perception on things. Let's see what other new gadgets we will have in the futre.

Oh my gosh I remember having a pager. Back then I thought they were so cool especially because I knew pager code and had a voicemail on the pager. The funny thing is if I got a page and I was not at home there was no phone to call back lol. I was talking to my siser in law and I asked her if she knew about pagers and she looked at me like I was crazy. I said, "You don't know pager code?" She asked me why didn't you just text the person and I laughed becasue we did not even use cell phones that way back then. I agree a cell phoen is very important to have. I hav a son one time my cell phone asn't working and I was rushing to the gas station. I can't even imagine what would have happened if we would have run out of gas.

Haha, omg, pagers!! I remember those! I thought I was sooooo cool when I got one, too. And then there was pager code. Remember that? So you could talk to people through the pager. And like you, I remember the feeling I got when I got my first cell phone. I felt invincible! Like when my friends and I were at the movies and we had to call our parents to get a ride home and we would look for a pay phone (do those even still exist?) and then I would pull out my trusty cell phone and be like, "I've got it! Who did you want to call?" Haha. Sorry, remeniscing a little much. It's funny now how dependent we have become on ceell phones. Mine not only hold my numbers, but email addresses, my actually emails, my datebook, appointments, everything! I really would be lost without my cell phone.

I have an iPhone and am constantly connected to people and (most of the time) able to have internet connectivity. I'm always needing to text someone, whether it be important or not. I have to know exactly what is going on in pop culture and the world at any given time or else I feel uncomfortably disconnected. I'm not sure when all of this started but it makes me think back to when I was content at home in the evening, reading a book not waiting for the house phone to ring.
